A non-governmental organization , independent of churches and political parties, ACAT is an ecumenical association whose mission is to oppose the death penalty, to intervene for victims of torture and to ensure respect for human rights, in the world as in its own country, particularly among refugees and prisoners. ACAT bases its action on the gospel and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
